The Russo-American Non-War Is a Cluster Mistake in the Making
The Biden administration keeps insisting that there is no war between the United States and Russia and that the operations going on are just simply a matter of weapons being transferred to Ukraine for the purpose of defense. But, while our senile president is in denial about what is occurring, or he is just so in tune with his advisors’ propaganda that he cannot decipher reality from fiction, the American taxpayers not only have their hard-earned dollars sucked from their paychecks to fund the military-industrial complex, but they have to patiently wait for the trigger that sets off a hot war and kills American soldiers abroad and civilians at home (will that trigger be something like another Ukrainian naval drone attack on the Kerch Bridge between Crimea and Krasnodar Krai, Russia?).
Even during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) meeting in Vilnius, Lithuania last week, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan seemed to admit that a quick approval of Ukraine into NATO would mean that the United States and its allies would then have to battle Vladimir Putin’s military in direct conflict (it would immediately invoke Article 5). However, despite the United States not being quite ready for such a thing, it was made clear that Ukraine would eventually join NATO, and when this does happen, it will inevitably cross Russia’s red line.
How anyone can suggest that sending billions of dollars in money and weapons and equipment to someone’s enemy, with pledges to keep the support flowing for months or years to come, is not considered a war with that country is beyond me, but either way, the Biden administration will likely get its hot war in the end. Many of the same bureaucrats in President Joe Biden’s cabinet (like Victoria Nuland) were also involved in President Barack Obama’s coup against the democratically-elected government of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and the subsequent support for Ukraine’s brutal campaign against the Donetsk and Luhansk separatists.
The latest round of aid packages to Ukraine included the controversial cluster munitions, which are prohibited by 123 countries and were used by the United States military in its invasion of Iraq. In the beginning of the war, I remember specifically that the United States government and others were outraged that Russia was using such weapons in its invasion of Ukraine. Children were being killed by the savage Russian troops, but now, it is magically fine for the Ukrainian government to use those same weapons. Putin quickly released a statement indicating that he will “mirror” the Ukrainian government’s use of cluster bombs against Russians, which would escalate tensions further. President Biden is not really a diplomatic kind of guy, so I guess antagonizing a superpower makes sense to him.
What makes this even worse is that Congress has a restriction that prevents cluster munitions with a dud rate greater than one percent from being transferred abroad (the Biden administration will be sending ones with a dud rate of over two percent), and President Biden must use his dictatorial powers, somehow justified under Section 614 of the Foreign Assistance Act, to even be able to participate in this arms deal. The executive branch legislates on its own authority, anyway, so really this is not a novel concept. Basically, Biden is a hypocrite, dictator, and murderer (of children). But hey, anyone sitting in the imperial throne in Washington pretty much assumes those titles. It is just a day in the life of a modern American president.
While President Biden was in Helsinki, Finland assuring the world that the American Empire would defend “every inch” of territory of its European vassal states, he was also preparing to send 3,000 additional reservists to Europe to join the 100,000 troops already stationed there (20,000 of them were deployed immediately after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022). Additionally, NATO is planning to have 300,000 troops on standby, you know, just in case one square inch of NATO territory gets stepped on by a Russian soldier. And yet, somehow, our brilliant officials try to persuade us that we are not in a state of war. I mean, the American war effort against Russia even has a name: Operation Atlantic Resolve (started in 2014 under the Obama administration).
If you thought that an increased presence in Europe was an overreach, you might want to jog your memory about how 900 American troops are still lingering in Syria. Yes, just because this conflict is largely gone from the news and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is no longer a threat does not mean that the Biden administration is not still trying to patrol the oil fields and destabilize Russia’s ally, Bashar al-Assad. Despite the fact that Russian troops were invited into Syria and the United States just barged in the front door with helicopters, tanks, and troops; the Biden administration is now angry that its MQ-9 Reaper drones (that we the taxpayers are required to fund) are being harassed by Russian jets in that country, and this may lead to an escalation between the United States and Russia in Syria. However, we are not at war with Russia, so we should not be worried about it. We might just simply put more military obstacles in our adversary’s way. Maybe when the F-35 and F-16 fighter jets and the USS Thomas Hudner are done retaliating against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, under the guise of freedom of navigation (Iran has been allegedly attempting to seize ships in the region), they can circle back around to the other side of the Arabian Peninsula and put Russian troops back in their place in the Syrian front.
While the United States government assures Ukraine that it will stand with its ally for as long as it takes, actively works on partnerships with defense contractors to ramp up production of weapons and to ensure that their coffers will be filled well into the future, and depletes its own resources to hinder military readiness; we can rest easy knowing that what we are facing is not a war with Russia. Just lay your head back down and ignore what is going on in Ukraine. It is for our best interests, after all, so just have faith in what our government does. We the lowly peasants of America, who are struggling to survive in our own domestic environment, are just too stupid to comprehend the benefits of engaging in a non-war with potential nuclear consequences. So, yeah, raise up your blue and yellow flags and send your tax dollars with joy. The Biden administration is committing us to months or years more of aid to Ukraine, so we might as well enjoy the ride.
And when the war is over, we can celebrate knowing that BlackRock (and all of its Fortune 500 companies), as well as JPMorgan Chase, will create the Fund for the Development of Ukraine to clean up that country. It will only cost us Americans a low, low price of $411 billion to over $1 trillion (for a comparison, Ukraine’s pre-war economy was valued at roughly $100 billion). Not a bad deal, huh? Well, it is not a bad deal for the government-connected corporations that get to profit off of our foreign policy, but maybe you just will not get to feed or house your family for some time while they get to laugh at us on their way to the bank. Stop being so selfish and soak up the paradise that collectivism and cronyism offer.
