The Attempt by Republicans to Cancel Tucker Carlson Shows a Deeper Anti-Free Speech Agenda to Protect Israel
Is there a civil war brewing in the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement? After former Fox News host and previously beloved conservative commentator Tucker Carlson had the alleged white supremacist and pro-Nazi Nick Fuentes on his independent show, there was outrage across the Republican Party. Keep in mind that Carlson has also interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite not agreeing with him on everything, but conservatives nowadays seem to have lost the ability to sit down and chat with people from all different perspectives (just like liberals freaked out about the Putin interview). They would prefer to live in a bubble and preach to the choir and cancel those who do not espouse the pro-Israeli position (yes, liberals do the same thing). With the death of Charlie Kirk, there seems to be nobody left in the conservative movement who can carry the baton and genuinely listen to people of many viewpoints, as Carlson and Candace Owens, who would be good candidates for this, are being pushed out of the MAGA movement and into a camp of their own.
You would think that conservatives’ outrage would be at Fuentes, who is the one who has what they consider as intolerable views, like admiring Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler and believing that there is an “organized Jewry in America,” but instead, they are targeting Carlson as the one who gave Fuentes the large platform. This is how we know that the Republican Party has lost its way, and now that it exercises sole power over American politics, it is becoming more authoritarian and moving in an anti-free speech direction. Immediately after the Carlson-Fuentes interview, the Israel-first crowd (the ones who defend the Israeli government over the American people and will send aid to Israel before they do so to American citizens) was out in full force.
Florida Congressional Representative Randy Fine called Carlson “the most dangerous antisemite in America” who is taking on “the mantle of leader of a modern-day Hitler Youth,” and he went on a further tirade by declaring, “I want to talk about the dark force rising on our side. Multiple speakers have talked about the rise of antisemitism on the right. But it is not enough to speak in platitudes or generalities about the fight. We must call evil by its name.” If calling Carlson a new version of Hitler and an evil person who is no longer a member of the cool kids at the MAGA table were not enough, Fine also went after the Heritage Foundation when the president, Kevin Roberts, made the comment, “Christians can critique the state of Israel without being antisemitic. And, of course, antisemitism should be condemned…Conservatives should feel no obligation to reflexively support any foreign government, no matter how loud the pressure becomes from the globalist class or from their mouthpieces in Washington.” Fine has rescinded his offer to appear at a Heritage Foundation event and has unwelcomed all staff of the think tank to his Washington, D.C. office and has advised that other congressmen do the same. He then verbally assaulted Representatives Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) for not blindly supporting the state of Israel by saying, “Sometimes I marvel at their stupidity. Other days, they are evil. It makes my stomach crawl that I have to sit in the same room as them.”
If only the immature and childish responses from “the Hebrew Hammer” were isolated, there would be less of a story here, but the saga continues with other congressmen and political commentators. Senators Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell jumped on the anti-Carlson bandwagon. McConnell said, “Last I checked, ‘conservatives should feel no obligation’ to carry water for antisemites and apologists for America-hating autocrats,” while Cruz went further by stating, “If you sit there with someone who says Adolf Hitler was very, very cool, and that their mission is to combat and defeat global Jewry, and you say nothing, then you are a coward and you are complicit in that evil.” Much of this attacking of fellow conservatives took place at the Republican Jewish Coalition, where Massie and Greene, in addition to Carlson, were some of the favorite ones to hit with labels of “Nazis” and “anti-Semites.” Greene (MTG) fired back by saying, “But when actual Republican members of Congress and Senators and influential figures take to calling us ‘dangerous threats’ or even dare to call Tucker ‘Hitler’ and publicly announce to cancel us, they are not only doing exactly what Democrats did by calling Republicans ‘Nazis’ and Trump ‘Hitler’ but they are also trying to get us killed” (is she referring to the likelihood that Charlie Kirk was assassinated by elements of the Israeli government and its allies and that these three are the next on the hitlist?).
You would expect Ben Shapiro, who fired Candace Owens because she dared to criticize the precious Israel, to lash out against Carlson for simply having on a controversial and opposing voice, and he did not disappoint with his comments, “Tucker Carlson decided that it was important not only to host Fuentes but to smooth over his views, water them down and make them far more palatable to a normal audience.” He also called Carlson “the most virulent super-spreader of vile ideas in America.” After the Heritage Foundation’s Roberts said, “I disagree with and even abhor things that Nick Fuentes says, but canceling him is not the answer, either,” Shapiro responded with, “It is not cancellation to draw moral lines between viewpoints…In fact, we used to call that one of the key aspects of conservatism.” After Megyn Kelly passively defended Carlson, Shapiro also went after her for not condemning the interview with Fuentes, showing that the pro-Israeli movement will stop at nothing to harm the reputation of anyone who does not blindly follow the official narrative (the irony is that their anti-free speech views are more closely aligned with Nazism than Carlson’s).
Probably the most comical piece of drama that came out of the attempt to cancel Tucker Carlson came from Fox News host and author Mark Levin. As the pop punk band Bowling for Soup once sang “High School Never Ends,” this idea rings completely true here. Not only did Levin resort to calling Carlson a “Nazi promoter,” but he also went the extra yard and referred to him as a “little bitch” after Carlson texted him and asked for a public debate to exchange ideas in their disagreement on this issue (in what world does Levin think that it is a bad idea to have a conversation that exposes an audience to multiple viewpoints?). Levin responded to Carlson’s text by indicating that he would “rather debate a skunk” (hey, I had to debate a skunk for a time when it was stealing eggs from the chicken coop, and let me tell you, they are not fun to deal with), and he went further to decline the debate, saying, “I want nothing to do with you, what you’ve become - your vile libels against my faith, millions of Christians, and in my view, what you seek do to our country…There’s nothing to debate. You’re a Nazi promoter. You’re the modern day David Duke.” Apparently, Levin lacks any open-mindedness and prefers personal insults to actually discussing real content, and Carlson fired back by saying, “For the record, I’m strongly anti-Nazi... but that’s hardly the point…This seems like the perfect opportunity to rebut what you consider evil ideas, and to do it to my face like a man…I think you’d jump at the chance, assuming you believe your positions are defensible. I’m offering the marketplace of ideas you often talk about, is it possible you can’t really defend, for example, what Israel has done to civilians in Gaza?”
It sounds from these statements that Levin promotes the nation of Israel over the interests of the American people, and that the Israeli government is intertwined into American values, and with that, Levin cannot claim at all that he is “America first.” His primary defense is for the secular state of Israel. Plus, does the Bible not say that all who do not believe in Jesus as their lord and savior are not saved? Judaism does not believe in Jesus in this way, so to claim that the Bible gives priority to that religion is absurd. The Israel in the Bible migrated from a physical kingdom to a spiritual one, but American Christians somehow still like to link certain scriptures to the modern-day state of Israel, which makes little sense, especially given that many people who live there today are of European descent (Ashkenazi Jews). Even with the Holocaust that Jews faced at the hands of Hitler, there is no excuse for the modern Israeli state (Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and not the Jewish people, because for some reason, that needs to be emphasized) to do the same to the Palestinians (demolishing their homes, stealing their land, starving people, slaughtering civilians in mass, setting up checkpoints in Palestinian territory, etc.).
The only reason that I am covering the high school drama from Levin, Shapiro, and others is because of the deeper implications. Under the COVID-19 regime, the Left ridiculed and cancelled conservatives and libertarians for challenging the official narrative and questioning the origins of the virus and whether the vaccine was safe. Government officials did everything that the public could stomach to censor critics of governments, corporations, and academic institutions, and this even included the Joe Biden administration ordering social media companies to eliminate certain types of comments and posts, giving the impression that it was corporations enforcing their community guidelines instead of it being the real culprit: the federal government. The Left proceeded to brand Donald Trump as a Nazi and white supremacist, and if you spoke out against the war in Ukraine, you were classified as a “Putin sympathizer” and “Russian puppet.” Liberals and progressives went out of their way to cancel people who did not align with the transgender agenda or other social transformations.
Conservatives rightly condemned these things, but they are falling for the exact same trap when it comes to Israel. They are pushing a movement to cancel those who criticize the government of a foreign nation (you can criticize the United States government, but do not dare to go after Netanyahu and his goons), and this is not healthy to free speech in the United States. It does not matter if you believe in free speech in every other area except for the Israeli issue. If you do not believe that people are free to speak out against the Israeli government, you do not really believe in free speech, and there are zero exceptions. It does not matter how much you disagree with something. You do not have the right to censor people.
The House of Representatives (under Joe Biden in 2024, though it did not get through the Senate) passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which would have made colleges and universities enforce anti-Semitic speech on campuses (instead of the government making the speech officially illegal, it would have delegated this role to academic institutions, just like during the COVID-19 pandemic, states made businesses, under the threat of shutdowns, enforce mask mandates instead of directly arresting individuals who did not comply). Congressmen from both political parties have essentially said that the Constitution means nothing and that complying with Israel’s interests is more important than free speech.
Another attempt at censoring speech came in the form of a $1 million fine or twenty-year prison sentence for anyone complying with a request for boycott against Israel (framed as any United States ally) from any foreign entity, including the United Nations (UN) or European Union (EU); and this authority to enforce the law could have expanded into prosecuting Americans for posting comments online, as well as imposing penalties for businesses exchanging in free commerce with nations that happen to condemn Israel. The bipartisan International Governmental Organization (IGO) Anti-Boycott Act, which was built off of a previous Jimmy Carter administration law that penalized American businesses that were complying with boycott requests from foreign governments because of the Arab League’s embargo against Israel, has yet to pass; but the fact that the government was trying to ban companies from following a UN resolution from 2016 (not 2023 or 2024) condemning Israel for human rights violations across the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights shows the level of commitment that American politicians go to shield Israel from any form of accountability for its land-grabbing and genocidal actions (the United States will go down in history as having supported a genocide, and most Americans just cannot conceive of such a thing with the years’ and years’ worth of brainwashing). As I mentioned in previous articles, the Trump administration has been detaining dozens of anti-Israel protestors on college campuses, many of which are visa or green card holders, and some are being escorted away by unmarked law enforcement agents and without due process (completely un-American and unconstitutional).
It is not just the federal government that threatens to take away rights. In fact, thirty-eight states have implemented anti-boycott laws or executive orders protecting Israel and stripping away free speech rights from citizens. In particular, New York Governor Kathy Hochul stole $75 million of our taxpayer money to create new tools to target anti-Semitic hate speech, directed (by executive edict) the State Police to monitor and surveil social media posts, increased the partnership between the state and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to hunt down those spewing hate speech, and attempted to purge anti-Semitic comments from college campuses (to be fair she also did this as an effort to prevent anti-Palestinian speech, but free speech means that anyone can comment negatively about Muslims, Jews, the Israeli government, or the Qatari government, with no exceptions). Plus, we saw 250 state legislators from all fifty states fly to Israel to show solidarity with that government by proclaiming “50 states One Israel.” When is the last time that you saw all fifty states unify around a single thing that benefited Americans? It is clear that politicians from both parties care more deeply about the interests of Israel than they do their own constituents.
A lot of this has to do with money, as President Trump recently admitted that Miriam Adelson bolstered his campaign and has also frequented the White House to lobby on behalf of Israel (of course, conservatives have a problem with this when George Soros is funding liberal agendas, but if the agenda is for Israel, it is perfectly acceptable for billionaires to influence politics). Additionally, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has funded, largely through other organizations (such as United Democracy Project), campaigns for most of the politicians in Congress, and this has led to efforts to eliminate Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush (by dishing out millions of dollars) and attempt to get rid of Thomas Massie (Republican) and Ilhan Omar (even President Trump has joined in with the pro-Israeli lobby and is now bashing Massie and trying to get him to lose his primary).
Additionally, Massie revealed (on Tucker Carlson’s show) that every Republican (and presumably every Democratic) representative in Congress has an “AIPAC person” that directs him or her on how he or she needs to vote in order to keep Israel’s interests alive (again, American politicians care more about Israel than they do their fellow citizens of the country that they actually represent). The fact that Americans sit idly by while a foreign government influences our elections and buys our politicians is a product of a very good propaganda campaign that Adolph Hitler would be proud of (going back to the Nazi claims).
So, when you hear Mark Levin or Ben Shapiro bashing Tucker Carlson for simply having an interview with someone with opposing views (as Charlie Kirk would have done), you should know where these people come from and why they are fighting so hard to keep the status quo of warmongering going on behalf of a foreign government (so much so that perhaps Levin and Shapiro should register as foreign agents trying to influence Americans). The Israeli government is deeply entangled into American politics, but since the younger generations are no longer falling for it, pro-Israeli forces must resort to anti-free speech campaigns and bribing influencers with thousands of dollars per post in order to persuade Americans that they need to continue with supporting the genocide. When it comes to Israel, there are now four political entities: the neoconservative and staunchly pro-Israel Republicans, the pro-Israel Democrats (such as Andrew Cuomo, who was funded by pro-Israeli billionaires), the anti-Israel conservatives, and the anti-Israel progressive Democrats. Individuals from across both political parties are uniting to either support Israel or condemn it, and pro-Israeli forces are losing their grip on the narrative. Because of this, we should expect to see an increased effort to launch new campaigns targeting dissidents and free speech in the United States, and Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro, Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell, and Randy Fine spewing hatred and cancelling Tucker Carlson and the Heritage Foundation are just the beginning.
