Emperor Donald Trump Continues His Conquest with the Operation to Capture Cuba
While the Iran war continues to show the true colors of the Donald Trump administration, I want to take a break from that to cover what has been happening in a country that the current president plans to topple after he accomplishes whatever agenda he has planned for the Persian nation (it has not been clearly articulated). The United States government has had economic sanctions and embargos placed on Cuba since 1962, during the rule of Fidel Castro and the presidency of John F. Kennedy, but what makes this time different is that President Trump is on a bullying spree around the world and means what he says. After he engaged in a bombing campaign against Venezuela and sent a covert team to kidnap Nicolas Maduro (an unconstitutional war in Venezuela), the Cuban government, currently under the leadership of Miguel Diaz-Canel, has been living on borrowed time. Being that Cuba relied heavily on Venezuela and its oil exports, that lifeline has been cut off.
President Trump is now acting as the gatekeeper of what oil does and does not enter the island, as he began by not permitting any of it from reaching the island but is now authorizing the transfer of small quantities of it. Any country that provides oil to Cuba will be sanctioned, through tariffs, by the president as well, further complicating the geopolitical situation. Basically, the Trump administration pirated Venezuela’s oil and is now allowing American corporations to sell some of it to private businesses in Cuba while still trying to starve Diaz-Canel’s regime of the resources that it needs. If the president supplies Cuba’s private sector and blocks the government from receiving any oil, Cuba may peacefully transition out of a socialist (Marxist) system and into a crony-capitalist one (arguably not much better, as it will unlikely be an actual free market because corporations will exploit the situation with assistance from governments). The strategy seems to be regime change through oil pressure instead of military actions, but it gets worse when you think about the humanitarian aspect of this.
Cuba not only needs oil to fuel its vehicles and airplanes, but it also relies on diesel for its electricity. Since President Trump cut off Venezuelan oil, Cuba has struggled to keep the lights on and water flowing to its citizens (this has also trickled down to the cost of food and ability to provide surgeries at hospitals), and this week, the electric grid completely collapsed (the entire population of approximately 10 million people was without electricity, and only a little over half of Havana is back online). Additionally, Mexico and Canada have sent aid packages to Cuba just so the people do not starve (food and hygiene supplies). Essentially, the United States has completely crippled Cuba’s economy and made life difficult for the average citizen, and it was all done on purpose to get the people so upset at the situation that they would protest and overthrow the Cuban government (manipulating Cuba has been an ongoing trend for years with past administrations too, but not to this extent). Trump has been intentionally making life miserable for Cubans so that they will execute his agenda for the island (it is pure evil and a disregard for human life, and the strategy may be successful, at least in the short-term). This bullying strategy has seemed to pay off in some regards, as the people are protesting (and sometimes rioting) in the streets, often due to electricity blackouts and the inability to live life without oil (including eating), and one such protest led to an attempt to burn a Communist Party headquarters office (this building in Moron was only partially destroyed).
Will this result in a transition that will allow the private sector to take back control of the Cuban economy? President Trump has been insistent that the Cuban government is ready for a deal that will, of course, be beneficial to the United States (the more powerful nation gets better terms), and Cuba is just looking to survive after it has been manipulated by the Trump administration (none of these acts of war are being done with the permission of Congress, and if he starts bombing Cuba, he will do so unilaterally in violation of the Constitution). President Diaz-Canel seems willing to negotiate and beg for his country to be able to receive oil again (Cuba needs permission from the United States to get oil), but the status or details of the talks have not been revealed to the public. As an act of good faith and in conjunction with the Vatican City (the microstate that relies on Italy for its survival and should not really be considered an independent country), Cuba decided that it would release fifty-one prisoners (possibly political prisoners). We will see where these diplomatic acts lead, but the fact of the matter is that President Trump is harming the Cuban people for his own personal agenda (again, this is evil).
Whether Cuba remains under a socialist government that fails to provide basic necessities for its people and acts repressive in nature is not the concern of the American people. Perhaps we will finally be allowed to step foot on the island (other than being tortured at Guantanamo Bay) and enjoy the Caribbean culture in a new country, but otherwise, Cuba has not threatened the United States in any way. Yet, the American government has restricted movement to and from the island for years, and it is unjustified, as Americans should be allowed to choose where they vacation without permission from the government. We should leave the islanders alone to live their lives how they choose and stop being the policeman of the world. President Trump cannot resist the neoconservative and war hawk forces that have been persuading (or blackmailing) him to continue the status quo of empire building around the world, and when it comes to Cuba, Emperor Trump had this to say, “Taking Cuba in some form, yeah, taking Cuba — I mean, whether I free it, take it, I think I can do anything I want with it.”
